Leah’s Pick: Tight A$$ Hotels

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Last summer, my husband took me on a dream vacation. He took me to Finland. Before we went, I sat at my computer for weeks calculating flights and hotels and where to stay and how to stay and how to find the cheapest deals. I practically didn’t leave the house, because I was too busy looking for bookings. (My life would have been so much easier if I had the Tight A$$ Hotels app when I was searching.)

Let me map out our trip for you. We flew into St. Petersburg, Russia. (Check a map, it actually makes sense.) We stayed there overnight…

… and then we took a train to Joensuu, Finland the next morning. We stayed in Joensuu, Finland for a week, at a juggling festival, which was, by the way, absolutely incredible.

If you’re a juggler, you should absolutely try to get to the European Juggling Convention one of these days. If you’re not a juggler, pick up three balls and check out this YouTube video to learn how.  But I digress…

After we left Joensuu, we took a train south to Helsinki.

We spent a week there, swimming in the Gulf of Finland, going to the island zoo (we were there with the kids), eating loads of berries, salmon, and snap peas, running around a gigantic subterranean playground on a rainy day, and just enjoying being together.

Then we spent three more not so kid-friendly days in St. Petersburg.

We saw the Hermitage, met some horses, learned how to read a little bit of Cyrillic, found a playground on Yelagin Island, let our kids play in a fountain, and rode the very very long escalators into the depths of the subway system. Then we were off on a plane back home.
I can’t wait to plan our next trip with Tight A$$ Hotels.
