Using LinkedIn to Grow Your App

What is LinkedIn?
LinkedIn is a business network, so it’s likely that you haven’t joined if you’re not out in the workforce yet. It might even seem intimidating at first, but it really isn’t. The important thing about LinkedIn is to be yourself. You have to fill in real information. Only the truth works with LinkedIn. You don’t have to write that you work in your mom’s basement, but you shouldn’t try to appear to be a multi-million dollar corporation if you do.
Once you have your basic information filled in, connect to anyone you know well. Don’t connect to people you don’t know. It’s not a popularity contest. For people you want to connect to, but you don’t know, there are LinkedIn Groups.
LinkedIn Groups are where you get to reach out to people.
To join groups:
- Go to the search box
- Where it says people, press the small down arrow, and select groups from the drop down menu
- Type in the category you’re looking for
- Choose groups that have a large number of members – at least several hundred
- Join the groups
You’ll have to wait to be approved for most groups, but it usually only takes a day or two.
How do I talk about my Android app on LinkedIn?
Once you’re approved for a group, read what’s been posted and see how you can post something relevant. It’s fine to promote your app, but make it relevant to the group. Be sure to tell people to contact you with questions, and be sure to tell people how your app solves their problems. Don’t forget to include a link to your app!
Look for threads that talk about problems your app solves, and explain how your app solves their problem. Write a new response on each thread. No one wants to see the same advertisement over and over again. Spend a little time, and you’ll get great results.
