Grow your App Empire

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Last week we spoke about the importance of building an app empire. An app empire is number of apps that have been created by the same app maker. When people download an app one of the first things they see is the ‘portfolio’ of apps that this app maker already has on GooglePlay. The more apps that are in your collection the more likely it is that the user will trust this app maker and will download their app.

How do you grow your app empire?

There are a number of ways in which to grow your app empire. Of course the most important part of an app empire is that you create new apps that fit around the theme which you will become known for. The next part of growing your app empire is the marketing of your apps. There are a few successful ways in which this can be done.

Loading screen

When your user opens your app, this is when they are most engaged with the screen. Although you only have a few seconds in which to grab their attention the loading screen can be the time to highlight some of your other apps. You must remember that the loading screen is the first impression that the user gets of your work, so make sure that this is professionally done.

What is also important, that while you can use this to create links to your other apps, it is important that you also make clear that the user knows which app they are waiting to open, otherwise they may think they have clicked on the wrong link and will close down the app. Utilize the moment it takes to load your app in a create manner.

Push Notifications

Many of you will already be aware of push notifications from your own mobile phones. Have you ever got a message on your phone notifying you that an app has been updated? You usually will see a little number next to the app indicating a message is waiting.

Push notifications, or alerts as they are otherwise know, can be used in a number of ways. They can be sent to alert the user that an update has been made to the current app, to alert the user that they have not used the app in a while. My son played a Smurf game on my phone, and recently I got a message telling me my Smurfs were missing me!. What push notifications are perfect for, is to alert the user of a new app that you have released, or a relevant app that they may be interested in. This is a great way to promote your other apps within your empire to your current audience.

Banners

We love banners and internal advertisements. Although many app makers focus on using this tool purely as a way to create extra revenue from advertising external content, this is tool is also perfect for advertising your own content. The banners can be simple in design and highlight your other apps, or they can include the download link so that the app will instantly download when clicked.

There are many ways in which you can market your own apps within your own app empire. You have already created the apps, created an existing audience, and now you have the tools to market your entire network of apps. Extending your audience from one app to another will increase your download rates and usage rates; this will in turn increase your revenue from your apps.

Your App Empire – Building your App Success

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

The app market is a growing and vibrant market and one which everyone wants to be a part of. Creating a successful app business in this busy market is becoming more difficult as more and more designers and developers enter this sector. However, we have found that successful app makers, Apprenuers as we call them in the business, are creating successful app empires by being versatile and innovative.

What is an app empire?

An app empire is a collection of apps created by one app maker, you can think of it as your portfolio of work. Many app makers will wait until they have a number of apps ready before loading them to the app stores. When you open look at an app on GooglePlay, or indeed in any app store, you will see that there is a section that asks if you want to view other apps created by that app maker and very rarely will you see that there is no other apps available.

Many app empires begin with a theme, creating a number of trial apps that lead to the main app that is released as a premium app, other app empires do not have a main app, but many smaller scale apps that are based around one theme and host internal advertising to apps within the app empire.

Why do you need an App Empire?

The app market is crowded and competitive; therefore it is important to enter the app market from various angles to capture your audience at different places within the market. Being visual from many angles allows more people the opportunity to notice your apps. Once the user has access to your app, they will see other apps within your empire that are available through the app download page, in addition you should be creating your apps to advertise your app empire from within the apps themselves, spreading your apps to more users. For example, you have created several different animal wallpaper apps. I find your cat wallpaper app from a search, and when I download your app I receive a pop up notification that shows me the other animal wallpapers that is in the range too. As I love dogs, I will possibly download your dog wallpaper app too.

Different types of apps

AppsGeyser offers a range of app making template tools that will allow you to create an app empire with ease. Before you begin making any apps, we suggest that you take a look at the templates available and see how you can utilise them with your topic.
