We Can Make You Smile – AppsGeyser App Review

Friday, December 21st, 2012

Our app makers often ask us questions about their apps and how we can help them improve their success rates, and like we promise we are always here to help and pass on our advice to you. Many of the questions that are asked relate to apps not being discovered in the app stores. Today we are going to show you an example of an app that had this very problem and overcame it to become very successful.

appsgeyser app reviewThe app idea

Personality Development is an app made by Tarun Patel using AppsGeyser’s app making tool platform. The app was created to help people that are seeking advice on how they can make some self-improvements. This type of app is one that already has fierce competition in the app market. Today this app has seen just under 50,000 downloads of these over 100 downloads in its first day on the market.

How was this app made?

This app was created using the AppsGeyser website to app tool. The app maker created a blog from Google’s blogspot and linked this url to AppsGeyser. The website to app tool is very simple to use because when websites are updated, especially blogs which are updated frequently, the app will automatically update to show the latest version of the website. This saves the app maker a lot of time.

Why was the app successful?

This app had a little difficulty at first due to high competition in the app market, many other apps were coming up in the search for personality and self-help apps.

App Name/Keywords: It is vital when choosing a name for your app that you check on Google adwords what search terms are relevant to your app. Check how many times a month the keyword is searched for and most important check how much competition that word has. This app for example changed their name more than twice before the app became successful because they were simply not being found in searches due to high competition.

App updates: The app maker saw that their app was not being downloaded enough and changed the name of the app using the keyword tool, it was this decision to update their app name that made the app a success

App screenshots/description: The description of this app clearly indicates what to expect with this app. The screenshots however do not represent the app at all and if improved cold increase the app’s success rate even further

Revenue potential:

AdMob: AppsGeyser continues to recommend AdMOB Ads as an affiliate ad company as the earnin potential is simple and no additional work is required from the app maker. Earning potential generates on average 1 US$ per 1000 impressions. It is not possible for us to know how many impressions any app is generating exactly , however, we can estimate the amount of time a user is likely to spend on the app and from this estimate the number of impressions we believe this app will get per download. Personality Development is an app that requires a person to spend some time reading, therefore we estimate that there are a minimum of 60 impressions per download.  With the app having around 50,000 downloads, using this calculation, we can estimate that this app has seen at least 3,000,000 impressions and earned at least $3000 in ad revenue alone.

TIPS :

1) Keyword Research : Making sure you have the right name and being prepared to change the name can increase your chances of success.

2) Additional Revenue: Apps made from blogs are perfect as a free app, however we suggest that you offer an additional app with bonus content  for a premium price. The free app will drive users to your premium app. The conversion rate for free users to premium users is approximately 1-1000. If this app maker was charging $5.99 for their premium app they could have earned an additional $500.

What Will Your Future Bring? Daily Tarot Card Android App Review

Friday, December 14th, 2012

If only we could jump a month or a year into the future just to see where our business is, to learn from the mistakes we have made, wouldn’t that just be amazing. Well, I am afraid that is something that we at AppsGeyser simply cannot help you with just yet because AppsGeyser only has the ability to provide you with a range of app making tools to help you create your app. However, what we can do, is to show you some successful apps, in our Android app review blog posts, that have been made with our app making tools. We hope that by reviewing these apps you can learn from their success. Today we are really jumping into the future with an app called Daily Tarot Card.

The app idea

Daily Tarot Card is an app created using AppsGeyser’s  app making tools and has had nearly 5000 downloads in the past 4 months. The idea behind this app was to create an app that would be used daily to predict the daily fortunes of the reader. This fortune telling card app is personalized to each user by name and date of birth.

How was the app created?

The app was created using HTML and connected to a database that brings up the information. This app is therefore available both on and off line. There are two tabs on this app, the first being the tarot readings and the second tab is the tab for their advertisements. The second tab is a standard html page with clickable telephone numbers.

Why was the app successful?

There are many reasons why an app may be successful, this app has followed the rules and exceeded expectations by releasing in multiple languages and by encouraging frequent usage.

App name : To get your app seen in any app market it must be named using keywords that would appear in a search. If I had a baby shop app and called it tinkle toes, how would that ever be found in the app store is someone wasn’t looking for it by name? If someone wants to find a baby store app they would use the search terms, baby store or baby shop, baby clothes etc. An app name must be clear, concise and relevant to the topic.

App description and Screenshots: The description clearly defines what the app is about and to expect from the app once it has been downloaded. The screenshots are very clear. This is important because your Google ratings will decrease if the ratio of deletion to downloads is high.

App network language apps: This app maker has created a network of apps by embracing the European market. They have released their app in three different languages, English, German and Dutch and there is an option in each app to link to the other language. By releasing an app in more than one language you are opening your business to a wider audience. App networks work by feeding off each other, the more app a developer has the more the potential user will see in the market when deciding to download the app or not. Having multiple apps in the app market creates a feeling of security for the potential app user.

Revenue potential:

AdMob: AppsGeyser constantly suggests the use of AdMOB Ads as an affiliate ad company. Earning potential can generate on average 1 US$ per 1000 impressions. To know how many impressions any app is generating precisely is not possible, but we can estimate the amount of time a user is likely to spend on the app and from this estimate the number of impressions we believe this app will get per download. We estimate that there are a minimum of 60 impressions per download because this app will be used daily.  With the app having around 5,000 downloads, using this calculation, we can estimate that this app has seen at least 300,000 impressions and earned at least $300 in ad revenue alone per month.

Pay-Per-Call: This app maker increases their revenues by charging companies to advertise their tarot reading services in the app, they increase their revenue further by using pay-per-call numbers so not only are they earning money from the direct advertising but also each time the phone number is used to contact one of their advertisers

Tips:

Premium app: This app maker makes a good revenue using private in house advertising directly on the app. I would suggest they offer additional services on a premium app, their current app is very simple and I am sure there are plenty of tarot reading services that could be included for a premium price.

We would love to see your app. Maybe you would like to feature on our next Android app review post. Publish it on our Facebook page and you never know, we may choose your app next.
