Making an Android App as a Homemade Gift!
July 11th, 2012
If you’re over 30, you probably remember mix tapes. As late as the mid 1990′s, if you wanted to give someone a bunch of songs that you’d picked out especially for them, you’d have to find the songs on your own CD (or, more likely, cassette tape) or get a DJ to play the song on the radio (and they’d inevitably ‘hit the post,’ meaning they talked through the whole intro, right up to where the lyrics started.)
These days, mix tapes have been replaced by playlists. Playlists are cool, but there’s something to be said for a mix that’s in just the right order, maybe with some special parts added by the mix-tape maker.
Now, you can make a mix-tape app. It’s not even difficult, and you can do it in a way that’s completely legal even if you distribute the app.
How do I make a mix-tape app?
All you’ll need is a YouTube account. Make a playlist of your favorite songs, set them up in the order you want them. To be sure you get a great version, use the ‘VEVO’ version of the song. Those are put out by the recording companies, and are the original video. Another advantage of using the VEVO is that you can be sure that the video won’t be removed from YouTube. There may advertisements, but the artists and labels need to make their money somehow, don’t they? You can mix in videos of yourself recording messages for your friends or family, upload them to your YouTube Channel, and then add them to the playlist in exactly the right position.
Once your YouTube Playlist is finished, it’s just a simple matter of turning it into an app. It’ll take a lot less time than one of those historical artifacts we old folks refer to as mix-tapes, and give you great, personalized results that your friends can take anywhere in the world, plus, they’ll never have to rewind it with a pencil.
